A learning app for children with intellectual disabilities
Covid-19 left a community disconnected. The brief was a mobile learning app to reconnect intellectually disabled children with volunteers, coaches and over 800 affiliated schools across North America.
The client and the situation
A global sports movement building inclusion and community, where every person is accepted regardless of ability. With Covid-19 the organisation was facing a severe drop in engagement and rising isolation among volunteers, coaches and athletes.
How we approached it
- Extensive discovery sessions with stakeholders at every level.
- Detailed user personas covering cognitive abilities, physical limitations, sensory sensitivities and emotional needs.
- User journeys and workflows mapped before any interface was drawn.
- One-on-one user research interviews with the intended user groups and roles.
The interesting part. The part I most enjoyed was turning a quiz-style online game into a two-player interactive mobile game, a change that won the client over.
