Hughes Network Systems

Reimagining a legacy behemoth for mobile

A field-agent application built up over years, where no one part aligned with another in user experience, design, branding or even basic workflows. Rebuilt inside Salesforce constraints without breaking the brand.

The client and the situation

An innovator in satellite and multi-transport networks since 1971, providing broadband equipment, managed services and end-to-end network operation for millions of consumers, businesses and governments. Departments, franchises and direct employees tracked tasks, repairs, installations and route tracking through an application that had lost all cohesion.

How we approached it

  • Established best practices for user journeys and workflows.
  • Set user experience design, themes and formats across the application.
  • Built something cohesive and easy to adopt and learn.
  • Kept strictly within the company's existing branding guidelines.

The interesting part. We started with deep dives into their system and continuous discussion with the client team, then proposed design options graded by development complexity. Getting developers and client into the same conversation is what made the vision survive translation into code.
